Watermelon Man- He rode through the neighborhoods in a wagon draws by a horse or mule chanting: "Watermelon, lady, red to the rind. A plug for a penny, a slice for a dime." Then he "plugged" one so that you could taste the "heart" (a triangular piece cut from the center of the watermelon).

White as Roaches- Powdering your face to look white. From the Creole proverb, "The roach has come out of the flour barrel."

Who Shot John- A saying. "Don't bring up all of that 'who shot John' mess. Don't talk about negative incidents that have long passed.
